Youth, Peace and Security

Approximately fifty percent of the world population is youth and children. As youth can represent both a challenge and an opportunity for development, it is important that youth contribute to global development as beneficiaries, as partners and as leaders.

DEVASEC underlines the importance of youth in peace and security and contributes to increasing young people and youth organizations’ capacities towards the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Key actions

  1. Promote and support meaningful youth participation in all phases of informal and formal peace, security and political transition processes
  2. Mobilize young people to help strengthen youth-related policy formulation
  3. Build the capacities of governments, non-governmental and private organizations to ensure a better response to the needs and issues of young people
  4. Contribute to the capacity-building of youth organizations active in social development, including community learning centers
  5. Support youth-inclusive and youth-responsive laws
  6. Promote youth-inclusive security policies
  7. Support mediation efforts, early-warning systems and youth peace committees
  8. Promote and support coalitions that engage a diversity of youth, peace and security actors
  9. Promote and support socioeconomic youth (re)integration and empowerment
